What to do when you don't have the motivation to train?

It happens to everyone. We are extremely motivated, went all in, and then suddenly hit a wall, motivation drops, and can't seem to find it again.

What to do?

You want to get back on track but just can't seem to get going. Here are some tips we have seen for many people.

Something is better than nothing:

Hitting a slump can be a disaster in which we do not want to do anything at all but just ask yourself ‘’what can you do?’’ You are not motivated to train three times a week for an hour a go but why don't you do two 30-minute sessions per week. Something is always better than doing nothing and doing anything at all is often enough to keep you on track. This keeps you in a good place for when motivation does eventually return and allows you to get back into your old routine.

Set Realistic Goals:

Break down your fitness goals into smaller, achievable steps. This can make your objectives more manageable and less daunting.

Change Your Perspective:

Instead of focusing on the effort required, think about the positive feelings and benefits you'll experience after the workout. Remind yourself of how good you'll feel both physically and mentally.

Visualize Success:

Imagine the positive outcomes of your training. Visualization can help reinforce your commitment by making your goals seem more achievable.

Take action anyway:

Did you ever wake up and not feel like going to training but got up and went anyway? Afterward, you felt great and can't wait to train again. The action sometimes needs to come before training.

Focus on the Present:

Instead of thinking about the entire workout, concentrate on the immediate task at hand. Break it down into smaller intervals or sets, making it more manageable.

Set a Schedule:

Plan your workouts ahead of time and stick to a schedule. Treating exercise as a non-negotiable part of your routine can help establish consistency.

Training with a trusting coach who cares about you:

If you are feeling unmotivated, talk to your coach. A private chat with a supporting coach can be a solution to get you back on track.

Hope this helps anyone who is feeling unmotivated and remember here at The Gym Melbourne we are always here to help
